Have you ever looked at the bottom of a plastic bottle and seen a recyclable symbol? Chances
are you felt good about using that product, knowing that it would not litter our already
overloaded landfills.
But did you know that not all recyclable symbols mean the same thing? There is a number in
the center of the symbol – from 1 through 7 – and each designates a different type of plastic
and how “recyclable” it is. Look for the numbers 1 and 2 for the most environmentally
friendly packages. All Pureology plastic packages have a 1 or 2 recycle symbol.
PCR
You may often hear about “PCR” in reference to packaging materials. PCR refers to Post
Consumer Recycled material that has served its intended use and instead of being disposed
of as a solid waste, is being reused in a different product. Post-consumer materials include
recyclables collected from commercial and residential sources.
Pureology currently uses up to 25% PCR in all of our shampoo
and hair condition bottles. In the near future, Pureology plans to:
- Increase the PCR content in all shampoo and hair condition bottles to 50%
- Utilize up to 50% PCR in all cartons
- Increase PRC content in all packaging to 50-100%
- Employ up to 100% FSC stock in all cartons
